Cinnamomum Cassia Temporarily Replaces Cinnamomum Verum in NOW Cinnamon Products

NOW has evaluated Cinnamomum cassia and it has met all our stringent safety and efficacy requirements for cinnamon. Instead of discontinuing this product, we decided to switch to Cinnamomum cassia until a reliable quality supply of Cinnamomum verum is available again. NOW’s thorough analyses of Cinnamomum cassia allayed concerns over coumarin and cinnamaldehyde content. NOW has tested for these two compounds. They are present at very low levels and are not a cause for concern based on recent studies and current safety data. Furthermore, Cinnamomum cassia has actually been better studied for its potential effect on glucose management, a benefit not consistently found using Cinnamomum verum.

Rest assured that once Cinnamomum verum is available again and meets our strict quality standards, we’ll reincorporate this species in NOW Cinnamon products.

Cinnamon Bark has been used traditionally as a culinary spice and to support proper digestion. It is known to possess a number of bioactive constituents that exhibit free radical neutralizing activity; other studies suggest that Cinnamon components may support balanced immune system and inflammatory responses.
