Botanical Name: Mentha arvensis (Japanese Peppermint)
Description: Menthol is anorganic compoundobtained from peppermintoils. It is a waxy, crystalline substance, clear or white in color, which is solid at room temperature and melts slightly above. The main form of menthol occurring in nature is assigned the (1R,2S,5R) configuration. It also acts as a weak kappa-opioid receptoragonist. Menthol is widely used to relieve minor throat irritation.
Common Uses:
Use in spas - simply place some crystals in a bowl inside steam room for methol aromatherapy. Place a few crystals in oil warmer with a small amount of oil for aromatherapy.
Use in beekeeping - the use of Menthol Crystals will aid in the elimination of mites on bees.
Menthol Crystals can also be used with lotions and creams.
Mixes well with: Basil, eucalyptus, geranium, grapefruit, juniper, lavender, lemon, myrrh, pine, rosemary, spearmint, tea tree, and wintergreen.
Safety Information: Avoid if pregnant or breast feeding. Do not use on babies or small children. May cause irritation to sensitive skin, however, it is rare. It is important to do a patch test, first, before applying in large amounts. Do not use in baths. Menthol should not be used in conjunction with homeopathic remedies, as it will act as an antidote.
